Soul & Body
Lesson for May 19-25, 2025
What is the body, really? This week’s Bible Lesson invites us to release the belief that man is a physical, limited form and embrace the truth that we are spiritual ideas, radiant with the beauty and wholeness of Soul. We're examining how David stood in the presence of Samuel—not measuring up by human standards, but reflecting the inner qualities that God sees.
Mary Baker Eddy reminds us that the divine Mind maintains every identity, from a blade of grass to a star, as distinct and eternal. As we understand that “Soul is not in body,” but rather body is the expression of Soul, we glimpse the harmony that already belongs to us. This lesson isn’t about escaping the body—it’s about re-seeing it through spiritual sense. A lens of light, not limitation.
Jesus demonstrated this when he freed the woman bound for eighteen years with just a word. This lesson isn't promising physical perfection. It's revealing that you're already "the expression of Soul," complete and harmonious, even when material sense argues otherwise. This is where most people accept limitation. You're not most people.
This week's lesson isn't about body management. It's about recognizing your true identity as Soul's expression. Through stories of healing—from the woman loosed after eighteen years of affliction to the feeding of five thousand—we see that our identity is not in the body but in the qualities of Spirit we reflect. The relationship between Soul and body isn't a matter of containment. It's about understanding that "Soul is not compassed by finiteness" and can never be limited by material conditions.
