Follow Me Anyway: The Call That Changes Everything

Ever notice how some decisions make no logical sense, but you just know you’re supposed to say yes? Like when something in you whispers, “Do this”—even if it means dropping your nets, your plans, your perfectly organized Google calendar?
We’re trained to value strategic choices: weigh the risks, analyze the outcomes, make a smart move. And yet Jesus didn’t ask his disciples to calculate. He said, Follow me. And they did. No roadmap, no FAQs.
This week’s lesson makes it clear: discipleship isn’t about credentials—it’s about recognition. The centurion didn’t need a temple or theology degree. He understood authority. Jesus didn’t beg or persuade. He spoke—and disease, distance, and even death obeyed.
Christian Science flips the usual story of healing. It’s not about fixing broken humans, but about awakening to divine reality. Where the world sees sickness, sin, or despair, divine Mind sees wholeness—and healing is what happens when we glimpse that view.
Let’s be real. That sounds great on a Sunday, but what about Tuesday night when grief hits hard or the symptoms flare up? It’s easy to feel like we need to earn healing or get more spiritually “qualified.” But Jesus didn’t screen people—he saw them. And what he saw was enough.
One phrase in the lesson hit me hard: “He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also.” (John 14:12) That’s not a metaphor. That’s a playbook. The call is real. The authority isn’t personal—it’s spiritual. And it's yours to follow.
One of our friends, early in studying Christian Science didn’t feel ready to pray for someone—but did anyway. Her neighbor called when her son was having an asthma attack. Our friend use the little bit of understanding she had, and by the time the boy got to the emergency room, he was breathing just fine. The healing didn’t come from their confidence, but from their humility. That moment of stepping out anyway—that’s what following looks like.
What would it look like this week to “follow” without needing a guarantee? Maybe it’s speaking with love when you’d rather stay quiet. Maybe it’s reaching out. Or maybe it’s trusting that healing can happen—even if you don’t feel holy enough.
So—what’s your “net” this week? What’s the thing you’re being asked to drop so you can follow the deeper call? Let’s talk about it.
