You Were Never Broken: Rediscovering the Real You

What if the truest thing about you…
wasn’t your past?
Or your mistakes?
Or even your body?

What if, underneath all the noise and history and pressure, there’s a version of you that’s always been whole, spiritual, at peace—because it’s how you were made?

That’s the invitation this week’s Bible Lesson is offering. And maybe for the first time, someone’s telling you: You are not broken. You were never meant to be.

🌿 The Core: Your Real Identity Comes from God, Not from Life’s Circumstances

The Bible Lesson’s subject is Man—but not in the way culture usually defines it. This isn’t about gender or biology. It's about who we are, truly, at the root of our being.

The Golden Text says,

“Unto every one of us is given grace… unto a perfect man…” (Ephesians 4:7,13)

This doesn’t mean we’re perfect in ego or personality. It means our spiritual DNA—our real identity—is pure because it reflects God. And because it’s God-derived, it can’t be lost, damaged, or aged out of.

Maybe you’ve been taught the opposite your whole life:

  • That you were born flawed.

  • That your value is in your looks, performance, or bank account.

  • That life is a struggle and healing is a rare exception.

This Lesson gently—but firmly—says: That’s not the truth about you.

You’re not an accident of matter. You are the expression of divine Spirit, created with purpose, insight, and unshakable worth.

Science & Health puts it clearly:

“Man is spiritual and perfect… he must be so understood in Christian Science.” (SH 475)

When you stop looking for flaws and start looking for truth, you don’t just feel better—you experience something deeper: healing.

That old guilt? That ache in your chest? That fear you can’t explain? These start to loosen their grip when you recognize they don’t belong to the real you. They were never part of what God made.

This isn’t about self-improvement. It’s about self-discovery—the spiritual kind.

Like the moment Elisha watched Elijah ascend into a whirlwind (2 Kings). It wasn’t about losing someone; it was about seeing something deeper—that life doesn’t end in matter, and identity isn’t tied to form. That same spiritual clarity is available now.

The “perfect man” isn’t far off—it’s your original identity as God sees it.

If this is your first encounter with these ideas, here’s why they might matter—really matter:

  • If you’ve ever felt like you’re too broken to change, this Lesson says: You’re not.

  • If you’ve been searching for a spiritual approach to healing, this says: You are already whole, and recognizing that is part of healing.

  • If life has been loud with fear, shame, or trauma—this offers a stillness that tells a different story: You are loved. And more than that, you are made of Love.

You are not here to climb out of the hole you were born in.

You are here to wake up to the truth that you were never in the hole at all.

Everything you truly are comes from God, not from trauma, genetics, or life’s chaos. And if that’s true—then your life, your health, your joy aren’t “add-ons” or prizes. They’re natural outcomes of knowing who you really are.
